Thomas R. Lawrence (1939 – 2017)

Founder, and Partner

 

A son of the Mississippi Delta, Tom Lawrence was a retired venture capitalist and self-proclaimed serial entrepreneur. He was a graduate of Mississippi State University and remained an avid Mississippi State University Bulldog fan throughout his life. Tom founded Front Porch Press LLC (to provide an outlet for new Southern writers) and Porchscene: Exploring Southern Culture, www.porchscene.com, an on-line blog.

Tom left our midst in March of 2017, but he also left his mark on the literary world. He first published two books of short stories, Delta Days, Tales of the Mississippi Delta, and Cow College, Tales of Mississippi State College in the 1950s, both initially written as a glimpse of his childhood and early adulthood for his grandchildren. His third book, will d…a life in science is the biography of noted American scientist, Dr. Will D. Carpenter. My Magic Year takes an in-depth look at the 2014 Mississippi State University football season, as seen through the eyes of a devoted fan. Jake’s Revenge, set in Mobile, Alabama, is the first in a series of mysteries featuring intriguing protagonist, Mary Jo Thibodaux and The Queen’s Captain is the first book of a historical fiction series that deals with the lives of the fictional Ransom family, one of whom continually finds his way into the Mary Jo Thibodaux series.

Tom left several unpublished manuscripts, both sequels to the Mary Jo Thibodaux series, and also a sequel to  The Queen’s Captain, all of which will be released in the near future. Tom was living in Opelika, Alabama at the time of his death.
